Meet the Team

Redbeck began not as a business idea, but as the natural extension of a life shared with animals. It was founded on over 50 years of lived experience between Claudia and Martin—partners in life, and in mud, fur, and hay.

They met young, both working with horses. Barely out of their teens, each already had a dog at their heel and the rhythm of the horse world running through them. Mucking out, feeding, grooming—it wasn’t glamorous, but it was real. That early grounding shaped everything that followed.

Together, they built a family and a way of life centred on animals. From everyday handling to the quiet routines that define good care, they immersed themselves in all aspects of animal lives. (And yes, it’s still called “animal husbandry”—rather appropriate after 35 years of marriage.)

Redbeck itself was Claudia’s vision. The name comes from Red Beck, a local allotment where the idea first took root. She imagined something better for rabbits and small animals—a place built on consistency, knowledge, and proper care. Not just a boarding facility, but a space where animals would be truly seen and understood.

The values that shaped Redbeck have always been family ones. Claudia and Martin raised four children, and even between dirty nappies and school runs, there were always dogs, cats, and whatever wayward creature had wandered into the mix. The house was never quiet—and never short on paws, claws, or hooves.

They don’t refer to the animals who live alongside them as pets. That word suggests ownership, and that’s never how it’s felt. These are individuals, companions, and characters with their own needs and preferences. Claudia and Martin simply feel grateful to share life in their company.

Now their children are grown, with families of their own. And yes, each of them has carried the torch—children, fur babies, and the occasional “temporary” animal that never quite left. The Redbeck family now spans over 25 souls, give or take a visiting hedgehog or pigeon.

Many of them still love what Redbeck stands for. Which means there’s always someone nearby for a dog walk, a feed round, or a well-timed bunny cuddle.

Claudia is, and always has been, the boss. Her attention to detail and unwavering standards keep everything running smoothly—and everyone firmly on their toes, including her husband. She remains the quiet force behind Redbeck’s reputation: firm, fair, and absolutely focused on getting things right.

Martin, meanwhile, is the man behind the curtain. With a military background and a respected career in health and safety—particularly in the veterinary and equine sectors—he brings structure, systems, and an instinctive understanding of risk and welfare. These days, he’s also the painter, grass cutter, emergency poo-scooper, website tweaker, and fixer of just about everything else.

Redbeck doesn’t operate in a bubble. Over the years, Claudia and Martin have built trusted relationships with the British Rabbit Council, the RSPCA, the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF), and several local rescues. Not because they had to—but because it’s the right thing to do. Their goal has always been the same: better care, better outcomes, and a life worth living for every animal that crosses their path.

Redbeck isn’t just a job for this family. It’s how they live.
